Will Shoemaker
Will Shoemaker is a staff writer for the Gunnison Country Times, covering Gunnison city government and general assignments. He’s been involved with newspapers in the Gunnison Valley, off and on, since 2004. Will received a bachelor’s degree from Western State College in 2006 with a major in English Literature and a minor in Journalism, and served as News Editor and Managing Editor of WSC’s student-run Top ‘O the World. During that tenure, he wrote part-time for the Gunnison Country Times. Will worked for MetroWest Newspapers in Brighton, Colo. for a year following graduation from WSC, before returning to the Gunnison Valley in May of 2007. He also worked a year at the city desk of the Exponent, an independent, student-run daily at Purdue University. He’s originally from Lafayette, Ind. |

Michelle Burkhart
Michelle Burkhart joined the Gunnison Country Times team in the winter of 2006 as a general assignment reporter. She covers the county beat and a smattering of other stories that hit the GCT radar. Michelle hails from the Puget Sound area where she graduated from Western Washington University. Most recently she completed an internship with High Country News in Paonia. Michelle came to Gunnison to escape the heavy traffic of the Puget Sound area, live close to the mountains, play in the snow and work at a small community paper. |

Aleesha Towns
Aleesha Towns is the editor of the Crested Butte News, where she’s worked since 2000. Aleesha is also from the Seattle area where she studied journalism and Native American studies at Western Washington University and The Evergreen State College in Olympia. Prior to coming to Crested Butte permanently in 2000, Aleesha lived in Washington D.C. where she worked for two public relations firms that specialized in representing Native American tribes.
In addition to work at the News, she currently serves as vice-president for Partners, Gunnison County’s mentoring organization. |

Evan Dawson
Evan Dawson is a staff reporter for the Crested Butte News. He covers local water issues, the town of Mt. Crested Butte, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, and the various happenings south of Crested Butte to Round Mountain.
Evan received a BA in Communications from Western State College in 2005 with an emphasis in Journalism and a minor in business. He served as features editor WSC¹s student-run Top ŒO the World for two years. And, for a stint after college, Evan was a professional DJ and production assistant at KVLE (The Storm). |
