Description of Event for Arts Center Website – Come celebrate the human-powered winter recreation experience! Winter Wildlands Alliance created the Backcountry Film Festival in 2005 to help grassroots and professional filmmakers to show audiences their love of the winter outdoors. Since then, the annual festival has been shown in many towns and cities around the world, and raised thousands of dollars to help efforts to preserve our winter environment. The festival highlights the fun and magic of our country’s winter backcountry. The Backcountry Film Festival promotes the work of grassroots filmmakers who tell compelling and entertaining stories of backcountry, non-motorized recreation and environmental preservation. The films this year include Camp 4 Collective’s “Denali Experiment”, the short film by Luc Mehl “Alaska Wilderness Ski Classic”, as well as Sweetgrass Production’s “Skiing the Void” which won the ‘Best of The Backcountry Award’ by Winter Wildlands Alliance. The raffle is awesome, the beer is cold and the films are inspiring. So come be merry and celebrate the experience of non-motorized recreation and environmental preservation.
