SAGUACHE—If cabin fever is getting you down, it’s time to step out and get warm.

Blue Earth Business Opportunities (BEBOP), in cooperation with the Saguache Welcome Center, is pleased to announce the first annual “Stay Warm” Fiber Arts Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at the BEBOP Studio, 317 San Juan, in downtown Saguache.

Get out of the house and warm your hearts as you learn practical skills, make new friends and help preserve a traditional art that has sustained women of the Southwest for generations.   And you will have one or more completed “stay warm” project to take home with you.

Workshop attendees can choose two half-day sessions (offered morning or afternoon) in wet or dry felting, presented by Chaffee County CSU Extension Agent Karin Niedfeldt; “Warm Windows” instruction by Marilyn Davey, owner of Shades & Quilts in Monte Vista; or a Raggy Quilt workshop, taught by Jamie Mortensen from Heartstrings & Heirlooms in Alamosa, during which participants complete a crib-sized quilt.

Alternatively, attendees can choose an all-day class in Colcha Embroidery, offered by Delores Worley, a founding member of Las Costura del Sagauche.  Colcha has been handed down for generations from Spain via Old and New Mexico to a few surviving stitchers in Colorado.

Help keep this from becoming a lost art!

The “Stay Warm” Workshop runs from 9 am to 4 pm.   A $50 fee includes a hot and healthy soup-and-salad lunch, beverages and snacks throughout the day.   Space is limited, so please register early.

Treat yourself to a break from the winter chills, or plan a field trip with your quilt club or group of friends.  Groups of five or more who register together are eligible for $10 discount.

For more information, or a registration packet, call 655-0216.
