Staff

KBUT has a small but dedicated staff. Staff members handle the tasks of managing the programming, finances, volunteers, membership, underwriters, grants, donors, events, and the music library for the station.

Eileen accidentally moved to Crested Butte from Homer, Alaska in 1994. Eileen and her husband Jack planned to spend one winter in Crested Butte, but the sunny weather, longer winter days, recreational opportunities and great community lured them into to making Crested Butte their new home. Eileen has been involved in community radio most of her life as a listener, supporter and volunteer DJ. Eileen was the News Director at KBBI Public Radio in Homer, Alaska for many years and was KBUT’s Program Director for a stint in the late 90’s. Eileen was hired as KBUT’s General Manager in December 2012. Eileen’s show “The Dirt Farmer’s Revenge” airs on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Josh Elmer joined the KBUT family in June 2002 as the part-time Events and Office Manager. In June 2003 Josh was promoted to Events and Volunteer Manager. Josh moved to Crested Butte from Durango where he attended Fort Lewis College. At Fort Lewis, Josh was actively involved with KDUR, the college station. He hosted “The Van Down By the River Show” and was a member of the Board of Directors. His responsibilities include recruiting and training DJ’s, creating and overseeing all of KBUT’s events, office management, softball team member, therapist to the volunteers and more! In Josh’s spare time, he likes to see live music, cheer on Ohio State football and drink beer. His weekly radio show “The Van Down By the River Show” airs Tuesdays from 10 am to noon.

Chad moved to Crested Butte after graduating from the University of Iowa in August 2005. He came here for the fantastic biking and skiing and stayed for the community here in the valley. Chad joined KBUT as a volunteer shortly after arriving in CB, became the Music Director in late 2006 and began serving as the Program Director in July of 2008. He is on air Mondays from noon to 2 pm.

Grant moved to Crested Butte in the summer of 2006 soon after graduating from Indiana University with a degree in Telecommunications. He started DJing at KBUT in the spring of 2007 and served as a Board Member at KBUT for 2008-2009. A true Cinderella success story, Grant rose from late night DJ to head the music department; he was hired as KBUT's Music Director on January 1, 2010. Grant added Web responsibilities in mid-2011, and then went full-time in April 2013 by taking on the Membership Director position. He likes cooking with fire, skiing in costume, idiotic endurance sports, and creating cocktails out of Mezcal and chicken broth. His weekly radio show “Music Is My Girlfriend” airs Mondays from 2 pm to 4 pm.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Tyler moved to Colorado in 2001. After graduating from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2005, he moved to Crested Butte to ski and mountain bike. The rest is history. Tyler began volunteering at KBUT pledge drives and events in 2006, and in 2011 became a fill-in DJ. He now has his own show, “Playin’ Thru” on Monday nights at 10:30pm. In May 2013, Tyler joined the KBUT staff as the Underwriting Director. He is also active in the local music scene, playing guitar in several bands, including the ski-funk group Mine Control.
