December 1, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with George Sibley about the Colorado River District, water conservation, and attempts by the Front Range to take Gunnison and East River water for their municipal use. Music Director Grant McFarren also reviews the new record from Florida-based folk rock duo Day Joy.

November 3, 2012 - The Word talks with Crested Butte Mayor Aaron Huckstep about upcoming town projects on the books for 2013.

September 29, 2012 - The West Elk Word re-broadcasts the Commissioner Forum from Thursday, September 27th, sponsored by the Gunnison Chamber of Commerce.

September 15, 2012 - Chad Reich talks with Dr. Jeffrey Sellen, who introduces the Headwaters Conference to be held September 21 - 23 at Western State Colorado University. They talk about water, low water, how to get it back, and new regulations on oil/gas development in Gunnison County. It is all about water this weekend as part of KBUT's focus on "2012 - The Year of Water."

September 8, 2012 - Michael Brody, a curator of the Crested Butte Film Festival, talks about a few films we can expect to see at this year's festival.

September 1, 2012 - The Word talks with M. John Fayhee of Mountain Gazette fame. He's talking at Montanya Distillers on September 11th. Music Director Grant McFarren also reviews the newest release from Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band "Between The Ditches."

August 18, 2012 - The USA Pro Challenge rolls into the valley this week, and we talk with race CEO Shawn Hunter.

July 21, 2012 - Its a look at the Crested Butte Mountain Theatre this week as we talk with the current managing and artistic director Harry Woods. We also hear from Barbara Sagal and Eric Ross, who were around and instrumental in the formation of the theatre. Grant McFarren also reviews a new release from Japanese yacht rocker Shintaro Sakamoto.

July 14, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Jenny Birnie, co-chair of the Arts Alliance and Executive Director of the Center For the Arts in Crested Butte. We talk about how the arts can - and do - mean big business in our tourism-driven economy. Grant McFarren also culls up some good words about the latest release from Old Crow Medicine Show. Finally, The Dirtbag Diaries makes its KBUT debut.

June 30, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Chad Smith, plein air painter, who is showcasing his work on July 6th at Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Crested Butte. We also talk to the curators of the Crested Butte Film Festival, Jennifer and Michael Brody.

June 23, 2012 - The West Elk Word speaks with folks from both ends of the valley this weekend. The Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory is located in Gothic, and we hear from director Ian Billick. Matt Kuehlhorn talks about the Fight For Your Life program he runs in Gunnison. And for good flavor, Music Director Grant McFarren takes a look at the latest release from Italian funksters Calibro 35.

June 16, 2012 - New regulations relating to The Chainless World Championships have the townspeople of Crested Butte all fired up. We talk with John Chandler about what's happening with this year's Chainless race.

June 9, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with John Messner about the upcoming Gunnison River Festival and many of its components. Music man Grant McFarren looks at the new record "Heaven" by the Walkmen. And former Crested Buttian Disco gives us a preview of his new book "I Hike."

June 2, 2012 - The Word talks with 2 forward-thinkers this week. George Sibley talks about the history of Blue Mesa Reservoir and Dam. The Mesa turns 50 this year, and, ironically, Colorado is celebrating "The Year of Water." We also hear from Doug Hudson, president of the Gunnison County Off Highway Vehicle Alliance (GOATS) about what the organization does to promote dirt and motor biking in the area.

May 26, 2012 - This week we talk with Doug Hanshaw of the Seventh Judicial District about drug courts in Gunnison and Montrose counties. Toni Todd reports from Gunnison Artwalk, and Music Director Grant McFarren reviews the latest release from Baltimore rock duo Beach House titled "Bloom."

May 12, 2012 - The West Elk Word is back after a brief offseason (or preseason) hiatus. This week we're talking with Sue Ehrling, director of Six Points Training & Evaluation. Grant McFarren also takes a look at a new release from Justin Townes Earle, one of the year's best to this point.

March 24, 2012 - The Word talks with Western State College President Jay Helman about a potential and upcoming name change to the Gunnison college. Grant McFarren takes a look at the new Esperanza Spalding record. And finally, Ryan Stringfellow joins us in the GM Corner.

March 17, 2012 - The West Elk Word is getting risque today as we're talking with Fanny DuVine, founder of the Ruby Blue Syndicate, a local burlesque troupe who performs around Crested Butte.

March 10, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Drew Canale, who is helping to organize The Battle For Steve Lawlor - a soccer tournament to benefit a local resident fighting cancer. We also hear an interview with Mark Romero, adaptive athlete, who is speaking at Western State College next week. And more!

March 3, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Todd Kramis and George Sibley about this year's production of Sonofagunn, a theatrical spoof on Gunnison County. Music Director Grant McFarren also takes a look at the new record from Grimes as an introduction to Women in Music Month at KBUT.

February 18, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with KT Joy, one of the founding members of the Crested Butte Dance Collective, who has been working effortlessly on their upcoming performance "Move The Butte." We'll hear a brief history of the Dance Collective, talk about their upcoming performance, and we'll even get a little philosophical about this thing we call dance.

February 11, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Kirsten Atkins and Chris Hensley of the Adaptive Sports Center, who is hosting a celebration at the base area this Saturday. We also take a look at the new Laura Gibson record.

February 3, 2012 - The West Elk Word talks with Barry Clifford, 1969 graduate of Western State College and underwater explorer. He discovered the only authenticated pirate ship in the world. Barry is speaking at WSC on Tuesday evening.

January 28, 2012 - This week, the Word talks with Jake O'Connor who makes adaptive handcycles in his shop in Crested Butte under the name Reactive Adaptations.

January 21, 2012 - This week the West Elk Word talks with Nicholas, plein air painter, who has a gallery opening this upcoming week at Oh Be Joyful Gallery in Crested Butte. And right after, you can listen to Governor Hickenlooper's State of the State Address.

January 7, 2012 - The West Elk Word is bigger and better than ever! Today, we're talking with President Jay Helman about the prospect of a name change at Western State College. Also, Kevin Bramble, an adaptive athlete who skis way too fast joins us to talk about the upcoming X Games over the Elk Mountains and Maroon Bells in Aspen.
