Affordable Housing Deadline This Coming Monday

    The Gunnison Valley Regional Housing Authority will be accepting applications until 4 PM on Monday, May 9th for empty lots on blocks 79 and 80 in Crested Butte. Details about the application process can be found at Applications should be turned in to Town Hall in Crested Butte.


    Oh-Be-Joyful To See Camping Fees Next Summer

    According to the BLM, current facilities can't handle the number of people that camp at O-B-J. Managers will work to harden and define sites this summer before camp fees go into effect next summer.


    Supreme Court Strikes Down Fracking Ban and Moratorium

    The Colorado Supreme Court ruled unanimously against the city of Longmont's hydraulic fracturing ban and the moratorium in Fort Collins Monday. The state's highest court said that Longmont's ban conflicts with state law and is invalid and unenforceable. The court ruled that state law also preempts the moratorium in Fort Collins.


    Somerset's Elk Creek Mine Coal Silo Demolished As Part Of Shutdown

    The Elk Creek Mine in Gunnison County was once one of Colorado’s most productive coal mines. Its coal silo stood tall for 50 years, but last Friday it was demolished.     Summer Music Calendar Expands at CFA

    The Center For The Arts will book more shows than ever this summer, partially due to the Music Festival's move to Mt. Crested Butte. The Music Festival previously rented the Center For The Arts for all of July, and their move opened an opportunity for more diverse live music at the venue.

    Gunnison County Underrepresented on USFS's Resource Advisory Committee

    The Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) makes recommendations to US National Forest officials regarding the funding of future projects. Gunnison County is currently under-represented on the RAC. Here is the link to apply or learn more:

    Walk For Suicide Awareness This Sunday In Gunnison

    "It's a rough day for everyone..." says Chris Peterson, organizer of the first walk of its kind in Gunnison. Registration is at 11:30 AM at the Gunnison High Schoool. Funds raised will be split between national and local efforts towards suicide prevention.


    Spiegeltent To Host Music Festival Events In Mt. CB

    Spiegeltents are a Belgian tradition, based on a traveling dance hall. This summer's Crested Butte Music Festival events will be held in the tent to centralize the location and introduce patrons to the future site of the Biery-Witt Center.
