    Gothic Corridor Closed To Dispersed Camping June 15 - August 15

    Classified as a temporary, seasonal closure, it will eliminate camping in the Gothic Corridor, except in the 4-site Gothic Campground, for the two busiest months this summer. The Forest Service cites resource damage as the driver behind the decision.


    OVPP To Reveal Prosperity Strategy

    A public meeting will be held at the Almont Lodge on Wednesday, May 18th from 5-7 PM to discuss the Prosperity Strategy, a plan which has been in-the-works since early winter.


    Forest Manager Conference In Gunnison This Week

    The Colorado-Wyoming Society of American Foresters will meet for a few days in Gunnison to discuss forest issues such as fire suppression, bark beetles, sudden aspen decline, timber harvesting, and more.

    Supreme Court Strikes Down Fracking Ban and Moratorium

    The Colorado Supreme Court ruled unanimously against the city of Longmont's hydraulic fracturing ban and the moratorium in Fort Collins Monday. The state's highest court said that Longmont's ban conflicts with state law and is invalid and unenforceable. The court ruled that state law also preempts the moratorium in Fort Collins.


    Somerset's Elk Creek Mine Coal Silo Demolished As Part Of Shutdown

    The Elk Creek Mine in Gunnison County was once one of Colorado’s most productive coal mines. Its coal silo stood tall for 50 years, but last Friday it was demolished.     Summer Music Calendar Expands at CFA

    The Center For The Arts will book more shows than ever this summer, partially due to the Music Festival's move to Mt. Crested Butte. The Music Festival previously rented the Center For The Arts for all of July, and their move opened an opportunity for more diverse live music at the venue.
