As the final days of the 72nd Colorado General Assembly come to a close, we’re paying close attention to a bill that would establish a state-run program for re-insurance.
Sponsored in both houses by lawmakers representing Gunnison County, the bill has received broad bipartisan support, passing the Senate by a 34-to-1 margin on Tuesday. The latest estimates are that it would decrease health insurance premiums by up to 20 percent on the Western Slope.
If the bill becomes law, part of the funding will come from hospitals. That doesn’t sit well with Rob Santilli, CEO of Gunnison Valley Health.
